context):
- What is the objective of this lesson?
- Students will be able to research a specific career and
present this information using
both concrete and abstract ideas. - Students will learn how to use both primary and secondary sources.
- Students will evaluate pertinent resources and paraphrase the
information considering
organization of ideas (subject), graphics (form), and audience.
What will we examine as evidence of students' knowledge and/or skill?
What exactly will the students and teacher do during the lesson?
- Students will identify a career he or she is interested in.
- Students will make an appointment to interview someone who
works in the specified
career. This interview will be conducted in person on Out to WorkDay or by
telephone. - Students will brainstorm a list of pertinent questions to ask.
- Students will be advised on how to take notes and how to
conduct himself/herself
during the interview. - After the interviews, students will be given directions on
additional research that will be
completed regarding this career. - Students will go to the library and research specific sites
that have been bookmarked
and other resource materials. - Students will determine which information will be valuable,
take notes and write down
the address of cites and resources that were used. - Students will brainstorm how they will design their slideshow
in terms of graphics and
paragraphs. They will create a story board. - Students will be taken to the computer lab to design their slideshow.
- Students will complete slideshows and present to the class.
Students should be
prepared to answer questions from the audience.
- Review the lesson we have designed and make modifications as needed.
- Decide on what specific questions your students need to ask in
the interview and help to
facilitate these during class brainstorming activities. - Bookmark specific cites that students may use to find career
