1. What is the objective of this lesson?

FCPS POS Standards:SOL 8.5, SOL C/T/8.1, 8.4

FCPS POS Benchmarks: Compose and edit a document using the word processor and importing graphics from a variety of sources.

FCPS POS Indicators: After reading a novel students will write a book report on the word processor with graphics.

VA SOL(s) (including Computer/Technology): SOL 8.5, SOL C/T/8.1, 8.4

2. What will we examine as evidence of students' knowledge and/or skill?

Product(s):Asymmetrically written book report with graphic and visuals will reflect
the student's comprehension of the novel read.

3. What exactly will the students and teacher do during the lesson?

Directions to students for proceeding with the lesson:

1. While reading the novel, students will make notes about setting, plot, character,
   conflict(s), and resolution.
2. Students will learn how to synthesize information into text form.
3. Students will learn the steps in opening files and in transferring graphics to text.

Directions to teacher/administrator using the lesson ?
Skills needed:
1. Know how to transfer graphics from Internet source to ClarisWorks.
2. Know how to keep two or more sites open at once.

Students have the opportunity to select a novel of their choice and level. They then can adapt
their book report to reflect both their ability to synthesize what has been read and their skill
in using the Internet as a source and ClarisWorks as a tool for formulating a symmetrically
stylized book report .
