What will we examine as evidence of students' knowledge and/or skill?
What exactly will the students and teacher do during the lesson?
- Students will work in small groups and choose a sport to
investigate. Slide one will
contain the title of the presentation, a list of group members, and a graphic related to the
sport. The image can be exported from the ClarisWorks library, Internet or from
various CD-ROM's. - Students will write a short explanation for why they chose the
sport in slide two. They
will export a graphic from the ClarisWorks library, Internet or from various CD-
ROM's. - Students will address the role of friction in their sport in
slide 3 by answering the
following questions:
Why is friction important to the sport?
What kind/s of friction play a role in the sport? Provide examples.
How is friction increased or decreased in the sport? Provide examples. - Students will use the digital camerato capture a
picture that shows an application of
Newton's First Law to their sport. (Slide 4)They must summarize the law as well as
explain how the picture is related to it. - Students will use the scannerto scan a picture that
shows an application of Newton's
Second Law to their sport. (Slide 5)They must summarize the law as well as explain
how the picture is related to it. - Students will download a picturefrom the Internet that
shows an application of
Newton's Third Law to their sport. (Slide 6)They must summarize the law as well as
explain how the picture is related to it.
- Before beginning this project, the teacher must present the
topics of friction and
Newton's Laws of Motion to the class. - The teacher must secure all necessary equipment;this includes
access to a scanner,
digital camera, and computer lab. - The teacher should generate a list of instructions that
summarize how to use the
different equipment. These directions should be made available to the students.
What options in presentation(s) and/or response(s) are suggested in order to provide the opportunity for all students to demonstrate achievement of the benchmark(s) and indicator(s)?
