Rubric for Oral Presentation
Approximate Time Frame: Two weeks time to write a draft and
final copy of research report, one block to explain use of scanner,
and Avid Cinema program,
Materials/Equipment Needed: Word processing program (ClarisWorks, Microsoft Word, Internet access, Scanner, Avid Cinema program, and sports equipment to demonstrate concepts
Description of Lesson (includes context):
Overview:
- What is the objective of this lesson? For students to
demonstrate their understanding of Newton's three Laws of
Motion.
Students will :
-Recognize different examples of forces.
-Be able to state and apply each of Newton's Laws of Motion
-Define the terms:inertia, balanced, and unbalanced forces
-Understand action and reaction
-Solve problems using the laws of motion
-Be able to use a digital camera, scanner and the Avid Cinema program
-Use ClarisWorks or other word processing system to design and import their
reports, access the Internet for information and access other graphics
to support their presentation.
What will we examine as evidence of students' knowledge and/or skill?
What exactly will the students and teacher do during the lesson?
- Outline information provided by their textbook.
- Work in groups of four to produce the Avid Cinema production.
Each student will
write a research report on the group's chosen sport to be handed in individually.
However, the demonstration of how the particular sport applies to Newton's Law will
be placed on the Avid Cinema program. The students will present Avid Cinema
program to the class with their oral presentation of the sport. - This project will be a culmination activity to the unit
Investigating Motion, Forces and
Energy in the classroom as well as in the computer lab before beginning this project. - Students will individually submit a research report done on
word processing for
evaluation. - They will be given the following six questions to answer
pertaining to their sport.
a.How do rolling, sliding, and/or static friction influence the movement of your sport?
b. How does the force of gravity influence the movements in your sport?
c.How does inertia apply to your sport?
dHow does acceleration or momentum apply to your sport?
e.How do action-reaction forces apply to your sport?
f.Develop your own physics-related question that pertains to your sport. - Students will take a picture of a student demonstrating
Newton's Law, create a title
page with the photograph. - Each group will have two to three days in the computer lab to
create the Avid Cinema
program where they scan in the pictures from the digital camera and place them on the
Avid Cinema program. There will be four to five organized slides demonstrating their
understanding of Newton's Laws. - They will save the slide show on their own assigned disk or on the Zip Drive.
1. Class time will be given to instruct the students on the use of
the digital camera,
2. Teach will assist and facilitate the students in developing their
storyboard and set of
4. Attached rubrics show how the research report is be graded. Also
an oral presentation
What options in presentation(s) and/or response(s) are suggested in order to provide the opportunity for all students to demonstrate achievement of the benchmark(s) and indicator(s)?
- Scheduled time in the library to help develop the research project.
- English teacher, on the team, will help the students to write
their first draft of the
research report. She will help them with the grammatical and mechanical aspects of the
research report. - Teacher decides upon who will be in each cooperative group of
four based on the
strengths and weaknesses of the students. - All information disseminated will be done to aid the students
with auditory and visual
processing needs. - Computer lab personnel and technology pyramid personnel will
be enlisted to aid the
students in their development of this project. - Time after school will be needed for those students who need a
more one-on-one
attention in order for them to fully demonstrate their ability to understand these
concepts.
