Description of Lesson (includes context):
The Student or group of students will research and develop a cookbook for an assigned country. Each cookbook will include items to complete 5 menus from the student's assigned country.

LESSON OUTLINE

1. What is the objective of this lesson? The goal of the project is to increase research skills, encourage creativity, foster cooperation, and develop an appreciation of ethnic groups and cultures.

Directions to students for proceeding with the lesson:

Before Computer:

1. A country will be assigned to each student or group.
2. Begin research (sources may include the school library, public library, cookbooks,
   travel books, any information about your assigned country).
3. Gather an assortment of recipes. Don't forget the common drink . Remember to look
   for patterns and representations of the culture. For example, perhaps the majority of
   people in the country do not eat pork. Be sure to relate foods to customs, climate, etc.
4. Prepare a bibliography as you go. Follow example for format.
5. You must have five recipes for each of the following food groups Appetizers, Soups,
   Entrees, Breads, Desserts, and Drinks.
6. Organize your recipes.

Computer Lab:

7. Design your cover page:Use 46 pt. Chicago font. Title your cookbook. Be
   Creative !

Illustrations
Name of Country
By line

8. Write a foreword for the cookbook which explains the relationship among customs,
   climate, heritage, history, geography, & people.
9. Table of contents should include sections for each group of recipes
10. Recipes: write a brief introductions for each recipe section. Include pictures of
    recipes. Illustrate and decorate pages
11. Bibliographymust include a minimum of five sources. At least two sources must
    not be cookbooks.
12. Have Fun! Be Creative!

Directions to teacher/administrator using the lesson?

1. Canbe assigned as a group or individual project. Assign students a country of your
   choice. Do not duplicate countries.
2. School library may not have all of the sources needed. Provide additional sources from
   public library, cookbooks, travel books, etc.
